In a shocking turn of events, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a male Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer in connection with the death of Detective Constable Cassandra Hove.
Hove was shot and killed during a gunfight with armed robbers in Bulawayo’s Pumula South suburb on Thursday, 6 March 2025.
It is reported that the unnamed male CID officer was taken into custody on Monday and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, 18 March, facing a murder charge.
“Detective Constable Cassandra Hove alleged ‘accidental’ fatal shooting: Reports coming from the police say they have arrested a male CID police constable and is in custody charged with murder. He is expected to appear in court tomorrow. This is a developing story,” said the source said.
The arrest follows shocking claims from Hove’s family, who insist her death was not an accident but a deliberate act. The allegations were made during her burial in Mataruse Village, Mberengwa, on Sunday, 16 March.
A male detective has been arrested for the murder of Detective Cassandra Hove.
Hove was a member of the elite all-female CID homicide unit, known as the Lozikeyi Unit.
Her family maintains she was shot by a fellow police officer rather than caught in crossfire with the robbers.
After the issue was shared the update on social media, Zimbabweans flooded the comments section with mixed reactions.
Many questioned how a male officer was involved when Hove belonged to an all-female unit.
Bruce Mdawini Sibanda: “According to my understanding team lozikay is a team of ladies. So where was the male coming from in that team?”
Ndumiso Nkomozamaduna Khumalo:”A sad and tragic incident. Let justice prevail as the law takes its course.”
Danisa Mkwananzi: “Nothing will happen to him he will be transferred to another satellite station until we forget.”
