Journalist Blessed Mhlanga has been arrested and will be detained overnight ahead of his court appearance on Tuesday, his lawyers said. Mhlanga, who works for Alpha Media Holdings, is charged with allegedly transmitting data messages inciting violence.
The charges stem from two videos featuring war veteran Blessed Geza that were broadcast by HStv, a media outlet owned by Alpha Media Holdings.
Mhlanga turned himself in to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Law and Order section at Harare Central Police Station on Monday morning, according to his lawyer, Chris Mhike.
Mhike confirmed that Mhlanga will remain in custody overnight and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
